Piasau Post - Issue 111
5th June 2007

Dear Parents,

After the disruptions of the public holidays we are all now looking forward to a period of stability. The last half term ended with the excitement of the Book Week Parade – a quite spectacular event. Thanks to all of you that helped with the children’s costumes and a special mention for those of you that dressed up for the event.

You may remember that the recent inspection team requested that the school reviewed its practice in a couple of areas in order to even further enhance your children’s learning. These aspects will form the school’s 2007- 2008 Improvement Plan.  One area we had to review was our swimming programme, with the intention of reducing the amount of time spent on this one area of the curriculum. Consequently, starting next term, the school will divide the year into three teaching blocks of time and then all the children will attend swimming on two out of the three sessions. (Basically, two terms swimming, one term not).
If any parents would like to see a copy of the School Improvement Plan for 2007-2008 please let me know – it will be available by the end of this month.

There are quite a few dates for your diaries.

11th June.     7.30 pm PTA Annual General Meeting at which the new committee will be elected.

17th June      5.00 pm. Annual Kite Flying. In front of the Boat Club. Just turn-up with your kites.

21st June       Parent Drop-In; more details to follow. A chance to spend a few minutes in school with your children

3rd July         Parents’ Evening. An opportunity to talk about your child’s learning.

11th July       End of year disco. (To be confirmed).

12th July       2.15 pm end of school year (Thursday).

The summer break will see many changes. We are anticipating that over 40 pupils will be leaving us; and we have more than 35 names of new pupils. I am delighted to inform you that all the teachers are staying on and that we will be joined by an additional teacher in September. When I receive final confirmation of this appointment we will be able to share our plans for classes next term. Last week saw the departure of Mark Hall who had achieved some tremendous work with many of our non-English speakers over the last couple of years. Thanks go to Mark and we wish him luck with his studies.

As always if you have any comments or concerns about your child’s learning, the school doors are open.

Best regards from John and all the staff.
