Piasau Post - Issue 132
15 May 2009
Dear Parents,
Thank you to everyone who sent in a response to the Review Team last week. I haven’t had the first draft of the report through to me yet, but feedback from the team at the end of the week was very positive.
Swimming
I know how disappointed you were that swimming was cancelled yet again this week. Having checked the pool last week, I was sure things would be up and running for the rest of this term. Unfortunately the water is once again green in colour. When I spoke to the manager about the condition of the water, he said it was due to the water that feeds the pool. Laku Management Sdn Bhd is apparently currently trialing a new type of chemical at its Lambir Water Treatment Plant and, as reported in the Borneo Post, “consumers might experience murky or discoloured water” for the next two weeks. Whatever the reason, the use of the KRP pool is becoming very unreliable and in an effort to stabalise the swimming programme for our children, Nic is looking at the feasibility of making alternative arrangements. In the meantime we will try to inform you as soon as we can if we have to cancel swimming.
Leavers
Thank you for the tremendous response regarding expected departure dates. I have received almost all of the slips back, however if you have lost or mislaid yours, then you can pick up another one at Linda’s office.
At the end of this year, Dave and Stuart will be moving on to cooler climes by joining the Shell Team at Sakhalin School. Both are long serving members of staff and will have taught over 240 children between them! I would like to thank them for the impact they have made to the learning of so many children at Piasau School and to wish them every success at their new school.
Class photos
You will receive shortly a note about the class photos, which are taking place next Tuesday 19th May.
Upper School Sport’s Day
Just a reminder that the rescheduled Sport’s Day will take place at KRP on the morning of Thursday 28th May. You will receive a separate note about this event.
Student Council
The establishment of the Student Council is a new an exciting venture at the school. The children who were elected have taken on their roles in a positive and enthusiastic manner. Meetings are held weekly and reports are written about their involvement and progress in school matters during assemblies. Last week they reported to the Review Team and answered lots of their questions about being a pupil at Piasau School. The Review Team leader told me he was very impressed with their mature approach to their role! So well done to all our student councillors!
As always, if you have queries, then do not hesitate to contact us.
