Piasau Post - Issue 105
22nd January 2007
Dear Parents,
We are delighted to welcome our two new
schoolteachers. Mark Bridges arrived over the weekend
and Catherine Pidduck is expected to touch down in Miri today. Mark will be in
the Primary three class formally taken by Nicola. Mark has worked in England,
New Zealand and the Falklands. Catherine will be teaching with Marjon in the
ever-growing nursery class. She has worked in England and Singapore. We all
hope that they will have a great time here in Miri and help to make Piasau
School an even better place for your children.
Malaysian Children in Nigeria.
It is very likely that Piasau School
will accommodate approximately 15 children displaced from the three Shell
schools in Nigeria. It is hope that they will start in the first week of
February as we have just received the go-ahead from the state’s education department. We are also expecting two teachers to join our staff on a temporary
basis. Philippa Roland (yes, that Pip!) and Julia Donaldson should be with us
in mid February…….paper work permitting. The two of them will be mainly located in the classes that have the largest number of pupils. We really see this as a
‘win-win’ situation for all concerned.
School Review
As you may be aware the school inspectors
will be reviewing the progress of your children’s learning next week. Don’t
forget that you can express your opinions either by returning the ‘Parents
Comments’ sheet distributed earlier and/or by attending the meeting held in
school on Monday 29th starting at 7.30pm. At the end of the review all parents
will receive the report on the school.
Parent Governor
The Piasau School Board invites all
parents to stand for the position of Parent Representative. The Board is keen to attract someone who
can hold the post until December 2008. The parent should be willing to support the school in its aim to ensure that all children get the best possible
learning opportunities. If you are interested in the position
and would like additional information please contact the school. Parents who
wish to put their names down should do so before 16th February using
the reply slip below. If there is more than one candidate there will be a
parental election.
Premises Update
We are afraid that there are no further
developments with the proposed extension to the school. The architect’s plans
are presently slowly fighting their way through the state’s education
department – it is unclear how long this process will take. We will inform you
as soon as we hear anything ourselves.
As always if you have any comments or
concerns the school doors are open.
Best
regards from John and all the staff.
